Medicare rebates are available for psychological services. The rebate will allow you to claim back approximately $126.50, per session, for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year. To be eligible for the Medicare rebate, you will need a 'Mental Health Care Plan' and a Referral Letter from your medical practitioner e.g.
Catastrophizing - Catastrophizing involves thinking in worst case scenarios. We assume the worst will happen - even when it is unlikely. We underestimate our ability to cope with difficult things - even when we have strengths and past successes. Worry - Worry involves dwelling on problems or things that may go wrong.
Everyone feels low at times. Depression is different. When a person is depressed, they have a number of symptoms that linger for most of the day, for more than 2 weeks. These symptoms are distressing and disturb a person's life. If a person has five or more of these symptoms, most of the day, for more than 2 weeks, they may be given a diagnosis of 'Major Depressive Disorder'.
During exposure therapy, a person identifies a fear they want to conquer (e.g. a fear of public speaking). Then, they come with tasks they can do to overcome that fear. They start with easy tasks first e.g. Exposure can be done in different ways. Some people start with the easy tasks first, before working up to the medium and difficult ones.
