A Family Violence Intervention Order is a court order made by a Magistrate that is designed to protect a person(s) from being subjected to family violence by a family member. A Personal Safety Intervention Order protects a person, their children, and their property from another person's behaviour (non-family member).
After separation, we suggest that you review your Will. Now that you have separated from your spouse or partner, your Will may no longer be appropriate. By reviewing your Will, you can carefully ensure that it reflects your true wishes in the event of your death. If you do not update your Will after separation, any provision made to your former spouse will continue to apply.
The Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) was established to provide financial assistance to victims of violent crime. The total amount of assistance available to a primary victim for expenses is capped at $60,000 and $50,000 for a secondary victim.

In addition to the expenses listed above, a lump sum payment referred to as 'Special Financial Assistance' may be available to a victim who has suffered significant adverse effects because of the crime committed against them.For you or a family member to have a claim, the crime must have occurred in Victoria and caused injury or loss.
