Physiotherapy is a conventional medical science that utilises a variety of non-drug and non-surgical treatments to promote maximum recovery from conditions that result in limitation of movement and function. This could include an athlete recovering from a sports injury, a gardener with lower back pain, an older person coping with limitations imposed by the ageing process, or someone troubled by dizziness.
Headache is one of the most common afflictions affecting mankind. There are many different types and fortunately the vast majority do not arise from serious pathology. Certain disorders of the neck can give rise to what are known as cervicogenic headaches and some jaw conditions can also manifest as headache.
Pain is defined by the International Society for the Study of Pain as "an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage". In essence, this means that although pain is a sensation (like hearing or smell) that we all recognise, it is also influenced by our thoughts and emotional state.
Dizziness can be a disconcerting problem and very disabling, but fortunately its origin is rarely from serious pathology. Physiotherapy treatment can be extremely effective for people who suffer from a multitude of dizziness disorders whose symptoms may include vertigo (an illusion of movement), unsteadiness, poor balance, visual problems, nausea and neck pain or headache.
Major advances have been made in making surgery as minimally invasive as possible, but it is normal after an operation to experience discomfort and swelling which can lead to loss of mobility, strength and function.
Physiotherapy has a critical role to play in helping to address these issues, exercise prescription and importantly, education about what types of activity can be safely commenced at any given time so that the post-operative patient can be appropriately paced back to full activity.

After suffering a nerve injury on top of tennis elbow, I was referred to Danielle at this practice and I found her to be very dedicated to treating my injury. In a stressful time it’s refreshing to have a physiotherapist that not only treats the symptoms but researches medications and takes notes of my progress. I also found the reception staff very friendly and helpful in regards to my workcover needs.
