Myotherapists assess and physically treat myofascial pain, injury and dysfunction affecting mobility and movement. Myotherapy is applied in the preventative, corrective and rehabilitative phases of therapy to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structure (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) of the human body.
A Myotherapist takes a clinical approach, such as orthopaedic tests, postural assessment, neurological and functional testing in conjunction with a thorough palpatory assessment of the spine, peripheral joints, and the contraction of muscles. Myotherapy treatments may consist of deep soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, dry needling, TENS, myofascial cupping, ice/heat, fascial taping, stretching and corrective exercises.
