Termites are the most destructive pest we deal with. Everyone has heard of horror stories about termites and the damage they can cause, especially to older homes with wooden frames and cladding. Even modern homes are not immune, especially if they do not have protection systems built in. The tricky thing is, you may not be able to see the signs of an infestation before it's too late.
Cockroaches are known for spreading disease and are associated with various other health risks. Exposure to cockroaches could put you at risk of Salmonella, Dysentery & Gastro-enteritis. Cockroach droppings have been linked to some skin and respiratory conditions. There are several species which you are likely to find around the home or business, including German, American and Oriental cockroaches.
Australian ants are generally considered a 'nuisance' pest. While they can be annoying, and deliver a painful bite if aggravated, they generally cause no harm, they carry no disease and they seldom destroy food products or internal structures. They can undermine pavers and the root zone of plants, they can damage and short circuit electrical components.
Spider bites and mess from webs are the main problems caused buy spiders. In food premises webs can hold dead insects and other bacteria carrying debris which is best removed for health reasons. Many species of spider exist around buildings but not many of them are actually harmful. Species such as Redback, Funnel Web and White Tail have particularly nasty poisons.
There are many types of wasps, most of which are harmful. The paper wasp creates a honeycomb type nest underneath chairs, window ledges and balconies. Wasps can give you a painful sting or hospitalisation if allergic. Mus wasps leave their tell-tale nest on exterior walls of buildings making more of an eyesore than anything.?These can easily be removed by scraping off the nest and washing down the surface.
