An ingrown toenail is a curved nail that grows into the skin, usually at the sides of the nail. This can irritate the skin, often creating pain, redness, swelling, and warmth in the toe, and sometimes may cause bacterial infection. Sometimes a simple one hour surgical procedure under local anaesthetic performed in the clinic can remove the ingrown portion of the nail and prevent that part of the nail growing again.
