Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists under the Australian Government's Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative.
If you have a referral from your GP under a Mental Health Care Plan you will be able to make a Medicare claim that will subsidise the cost of the session. Medicare will reimburse $87.45 per session with a registered psychologist for up to 10 sessions within a calendar year. If your insurer covers you under 'extras cover' you may be entitled to a rebate.
