Services
All of our dentists completed their dental training at the University of Melbourne. They have completed further training, beyond what they were taught in dental school. They regularly travel in Australia and internationally to learn from the most qualified and experienced dentists and specialists, and keep up to date with the latest techniques and materials.
Tooth decay and gum disease are usually unnoticeable and painless in the early stages. By the time it becomes painful, it may already be too late to fix easily. In most cases, these problems arise without warning and with the worst timing - for example, before an important business meeting or during an overseas holiday.
Teeth are held in place by the jawbone and gums that surround it. Unfortunately, this support system can be slowly eroded away by gum disease. Bleeding gums are the first sign of gum disease ("gingivitis"). If this is left untreated, it can progress to an advanced stage of gum disease ("periodontitis") where the bone supporting the teeth is destroyed.
Did you know that your teeth are the hardest substance in your body? Even harder than your bones? But despite their strength, teeth are vulnerable to decay, which slowly eat away at your tooth from the outside in - and sometimes even inside out. Tooth decay is more common in the back teeth. Decay can often be prevented by good oral hygiene habits (brushing and flossing) and a healthy diet which is low in sugar.
Your tooth is actually alive! There are delicate blood vessels and nerves housed in the centre of your tooth, protected by the hard outer layers. Unfortunately, a tooth (or rather, the blood vessels and nerves within it) can die and become infected. This is usually (but not always) associated with significant pain, such as sleepless nights, prolonged discomfort to hot or cold water, or severe tenderness when chewing.
