Mia recently graduated from her Masters of Architecture at Deakin University, Geelong.
She grew up in a rammed earth home in a small rural country town in East Gippsland where the importance of environmental, social and economic sustainability were basic elements of the community fabric. Her time spent living, studying and working in Sweden and Ireland further enriched her architectural education.

You're excited (but also a little apprehensive) about the prospect of renovating or building. Before we can get stuck into the exciting Design Stage where you can start to see your dream-home come to life on paper, there are a few initial steps to begin with, in the Pre-design stage.

For the first three, it is preferable these should be as fresh and pure as possible; un-contaminated and un-polluted, for our health and wellbeing. We believe "shelter" and comfort (or "home") is just as important, and it too should be comfortable, healthy, and not cause pollution (or depletion of our earth's resources) in its day-to-day operation, its construction or in the manufacturing of its components.
If you are interested in sustainable building, it is highly likely you have heard of Passivhaus or Passive House. Passive House (also known as Passivhaus where it originated in Germany) is an international method or technical standard of designing and constructing a building to achieve a very high level of energy-efficiency (with little or no heating or cooling required).
