Services
Planet Architecture is a Melbourne-based architecture firm specialising in the design, documentation and project management of sustainable new homes and renovations. People and the environment are interdependent and a good home is shaped by both.
We define a good home as one that is the right size for its purpose, is bright and airy, keeps naturally cool in summer and warm in winter, is made of natural materials and provides ready access to the outdoors. It is stylish yet won't cost the Earth. Whether we work on a new home or one that needs a new life, we are constantly guided by this vision of a good home to ensure our design practice delivers sustainable outcomes.

There are five stages to the design process that we follow. To ensure our services are flexible to suit your circumstances, we give you the option of using our services for design only, or design and permits, or choose to use our services to completion of the build. There is no need to make such decision at the start of the project as each stage of the process is quoted independently.
Born in France, Director Marie Carrel admits there is no return from having been raised in a sunny apartment with double-glazed windows and comfortable hydronic heating.
While indeed the Victorian climate is not quite as harsh as that of France, the main difference is that the French are comfortable in their homes in all seasons while many Victorians shiver in winter and suffer the summer heat, with only energy-hungry equipment offering some relief.Common home design and construction philosophy at work in many parts of Australia is that of quantity over quality.

Many people are at a loss when it comes to articulating design strategies for a new house or renovation and matching them with a realistic budget. A lot of this high-level thinking can be done during a design consultation where we effectively brainstorm the available design options and their associated costs or conversely, brainstorm the different options available for a particular budget.
New homes provide the opportunity to integrate essential elements of sustainability that cannot easily be retrofitted to an existing residence. Examples of this are thermal mass and correct orientation which need to be present at the onset of the design unlike heat pumps and solar panels which can be added later.
