SMITH Architects is a small, boutique, experienced architectural design firm, established in 2007 by architect Stewart Smith. We have chosen to stay small to prioritise our clients and dedicate time to the creative process that we engage in on your project. Stewart has worked across an eclectic range of project types and scales amongst leading architectural practices prior to establishing the independent practice.

We explore methods of responding to your brief with an acute awareness of site, environment and financial implications. We are not just architects of buildings; we are inspired by the human experience of the places we design.
SMITH Architects have over 20 years' experience in Architecture and Construction. We measure the success of our projects by our clients' satisfaction with the experience of living in our designs, and by our ability to provide construction, design and problem solving experience to reduce the risk that our clients take with a building program.
We worked with the existing pre-war residence and constructed a humble yet elegant extension for a young family. Our client sought quality over quantity, which allowed us to focus on creating a home that was comfortable to live in with refined, warm and textural details. The spaces are playful, functional and built to provide a balance of privacy and connection to the community.
We were commissioned to build a house, shed and pool on farm land in Rochedale. Our client farmed the site for over 45 years with her family, and developed a strong connection to the land - we undertook this project to enable that connection in the next phase of her life. The farmhouse has been designed to allow our client to age in place, to experience the land, the path of the sun, the wind and seasonal changes.
