The Gin Gin area was originally settled by Europeans in 1847 when Gregory Blaxland and William Forster moved into the area. The site where the town now stands was once part of the Gin Gin Station, which was owned by Sir Thomas McIlwraith, a well known Queensland Premier from 1879 - 1893. Steeped in history, the Shire is rich in natural attractions, such as pristine watercourses, magnificent mountain views and peaceful bushland.
These coupled with genuine rural hospitality make Gin Gin an ideal place to spend a night or two! Today, Gin Gin consists of a picturesque, large main street that straddles the national highway with plenty of shady trees, flowerbeds and picnic benches in the median strip. Mulgrave Street is surrounded on either side by retail and service shops, IGA, food outlets, pubs and service stations.
