Armidale Acupuncture is owned by Tony Bennett, who is also the practitioner. The business has been established some 20 years and was originally located on the Tweed Coastal area of NSW for 11 years. Tony moved his practice to Armidale, for the cooler climatic conditions, where it has been located for 9 years.
Acupuncture is an important component in traditional oriental medicine and is probably one of the world's oldest methods of healing the body. The World Health Organisation recognises a number of disorders successfully treated by acupuncture and it is used to treat a vast array of problems affecting the various bodily systems.
There are several different schools of thought in the practice of acupuncture, although the basic underlying principles are the same. Tony chooses to practice a Japanese style, which is often referred to as "meridian therapy". Japanese acupuncture is therefore a highly suitable method of treating children and adults alike.
The pulse is examined at three locations on each wrist, proximal, distal and adjacent to the styloid process. When palpated at a superficial level, the Yang organ specific to that location can be analysed. On deeper palpation, its Yin partner is felt. This gives a total of twelve pulses, corresponding to the twelve organs.
Acupuncture can provide a huge relief to sufferers of all types of pain, particularly in the lower back, neck and joints. These painful conditions can be the result of any one of a number of problems. This can cause damage to the structural or connective tissue in the neck, back, arms and legs. These physical traumas can be a result of accidents, sports injuries or simply twisting or turning suddenly in one direction.
