Amid the vast and ancient landscape of Western Australia's East Kimberley region sits the untamed natural beauty of El Questro. El Questro is a destination unlike any other and offers the freedom to explore one of Australia's last true frontiers.
From deep gorges and majestic mountains to thermal springs, mud and salt-flats, rainforests and cascading waterfalls everything the Kimberley has to offer is located across the property's 700,000 acres and is why we say that El Questro is the heart of the Kimberley.

It's the name 'El Questro' that most people are curious about. What does it mean? The answer is that we don't really know. We do know, however, that it was named in 1958 by Torrance McMicking, who pegged the claim. Rumours abound and while many suggestions have been made, we at El Questro think that the mystery surrounding the name only adds to the magic of El Questro itself.
Located in the East Kimberley, El Questro is 700,000 acres of vast and stunningly beautiful terrain. This diverse landscape extends 80 kilometres north to south and 60 kilometres east to west and is mostly unexplored. From rugged sandstone ranges and broad tidal flats to rainforest pockets, thermal springs, gorges and permanent waterfalls, El Questro is a unique place and perfect for those with a sense of adventure.
Your El Questro adventure begins with the journey itself. Tucked away in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia the most direct way to get to us is via the town of Kununurra. From Kununurra, El Questro Emma Gorge is 83 kms west: 58 kms on the Great Northern Highway towards Wyndham and then 25 kms on a sealed section of the Gibb River Road.
Throughout the season, we will release special offers and packages to make your stay even more memorable. Whether it's a partnership with another Luxury Lodge of Australia or a special saving on your accommodation for staying with us a little longer, our special offers allow you to make the most of your Kimberley experience.
Dine at Emma's Restaurant or relax by the pool at Emma Gorge resort. If you want to venture a little further, El Questro Station is only a short 30 minute ride away. Our safari style tented cabins sleep up to 4 people so it's the perfect way to experience El Questro with the whole family. Throughout the season, we release a range of special offers to make your Kimberley experience even more memorable.

A number of team members at El Questro go above and beyond to assist you. Rangers Jim and Shaun are two examples of this. After my luggage didn’t make it to Kununurra, Jim was kind enough to stop off in town so that I could purchase some essentials. Not only that, Jim continued to check in with me to see how I was travelling throughout the duration of my stay. When my luggage did arrive Shaun, who was not working at the time, went and picked it up from the airport. Both Jim and Shaun are incredible assets to the El Questro team. El Questro is a great place to stay and I cannot wait to return

El questro station has a "community vibe" to it. The tents are quite cozy. Great for couples. It can get really cold at night. I love the toilet and shower in each cubicle. This is unlike other campsites where it's all toilets on one side and showers on the other side. I can actually get "privacy". The coffee was good as well. The only let down was the buffet night. They ran out of barramundi, sausages and steak. It has only been 30mins since the buffet opened. The last batch of Barramundi served to us was still quite raw inside. See photos for reference. The buffet costs 42 per head. Not quite

Well organised tourist spot in a fantastic location. The staff were very competent and addressed our needs well.
Glenn, our fishing tour guide was a great bloke who was very enthusiastic with every fish we caught - even someone caught a 110cm barra!
Only downside as mentioned before is very crowded and crammed camping area which brings the usual caravan park feel of noise and lots of kids running around.
The toilets and showers were always busy but only a very short wait to get one.
Would come back again to explore the other gorges.
Highlights were the fishing tour, licensed bar and great

The owner is probably a really good businessman, everything is made to make money. There you can find all the facilities you need (expensive food, incredible expensive fuel…). The places around are amazing but avoid to spend time in this “station”. Finally I don’t this that paid, wait and leave before 12 noon is normal for a natural gorge.
