Both stress and anxiety are normal components of our everyday lives and contribute to our motivation to achieve. For some though, stress and anxiety becomes overwhelming and debilitating and may manifest in both physical and emotional ways. Stress and anxiety may be related to difficult circumstances or present itself in situations that would not normally produce these feelings.
Living with depression can impact both your physical and mental health and go on to affect every aspect of your life. While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, when these feelings persist for long periods of time it can become hard to function every day and to participate in the things you once enjoyed.
Deciding where you want to go in life or dealing with life transitions can create confusion, doubt and a myriad other emotions. Whilst change is inevitable, decisions involving future directions can be painful and hard to navigate. Working with a counsellor to clarify your feelings and to help understand your choices and options can alleviate confusion and contribute to clearer ways forward.
Assertiveness is the ability to express your needs and rights and positive or negative feelings without violating the rights and limits of others. It is difficult to be appropriately assertive if your self-esteem does not contribute to a belief that you have a legitimate right to your feelings and needs.
You may associate grief with the death of a loved one - and this type of loss does often cause the most intense grief - however - any loss can cause grief and impact on your well-being. Grief can result from a loss of health; death of a pet; moving home; ending a relationship; recognising the loss of youth; loss of friendship; the acknowledgement that a dream may not be realised.
