Waikerie Hotel-Motel
The Waikerie Hotel has undergone a modern rebuild since a fire in 2011. We have the best hotel accommodation in the Riverland and the new Oscar's sports and tavern bar has the most up to date modern facilities with a big screen television, brand new gaming room, outdoor courtyard with a retractable roof, dedicated TAB and lotteries facilities, open fireplace and great food and amenities.

With the surveying of the town and building of a new pumping station and channels in 1909 Waikerie had become a hive of activity. Men who came to work on the Government schemes had to find accommodation, mostly in tents, many of which were in the area near the landing, while the S.S. 'Maggie' was moored nearby to relieve the accommodation crisis for those coming to look at the land available for selection.

I love waikerie, a fantastic little town by the river, the people are nice country folk, clearly the waikerie hotel -motel once was a nice place to stay and eat,
I have just had the pleasure of staying there for 4 nights for work,
Monday night I possibly had the worst meal of my life, king George whiting, greasy served with 5 cold chips, if I wasn't sitting with my colleague I would have sent it back, the green beans in the warmer looked like they had been there for a week, soggy wasn't the word, uneatable
To top off my stay, the last two mornings I have had cold showers
To eat in

We were drawn in by the promise of a gigantic Schnitty at a great price. Well... we got that... BUT we had to pay extra for sauce. $3.50 for Mushroom Gravy BUT the mushrooms weren't cooked properly and there wasn't enough gravy to cover the whole schnitty. $17 for the large Beef Schnitty.. A bit disappointed but the Hotel was nicely renovated. Salad bar was included with lunch but we didn't partake. I would have been happy had we not have to pay so much extra for a small serve of gravy

I went to the hotel the other day, beautiful staff - don't get me wrong about that - but the meal prices are outrageous!

Luckily I was the one paying for them, but I feel sorry for the person that was buying them. It was almost $25 for 1 chicken schnitzel. Call me cheap but that is was too expensive.

It was however a very yummy dish which I was happy about. I mean, after paying almost $25, you'd hope it is!
