Services
We chose Portland for its location in relation to our itinerary and for the prospect of seeing kangaroos and koalas around the motel. Unfortunately the wildlife didn't oblige, although the owner went out to check whether the local koala was in residence. We were warmly welcomed and given fresh milk and useful information on places to eat around the town.
Portland is the most westerly of Victoria's major coastal towns and the only deep-water port between Melbourne and Adelaide. It was also the first permanent settlement in Victoria, founded in 1834 by the Hentys. The township, which features many National Trust-classified buildings, overlooks Portland Bay.
Portland is a perfect place to stay and base yourself after driving the 400 or so kilometres via the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne. Being the most westerly Victorian coastal town, it is also ideally located if you intend to explore South Australia or Western Victoria.

Golden Chain Property Quality in addition to being proudly all-Australian and having more locations throughout Australia than any other accommodation group, are also most protective of our consistent standards, ranging from medium to high quality in all of our establishments. We want you to enjoy the time you spend with Golden Chain.

Thank you for a comfortable stay. Hotel is well positioned near the port and close to a great pub (Macs) Although a little dated from the outside the place has spotlessly clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly hosts. Nice and quiet too. Great for travellers.

Beautiful rooms with lots of space, everything you need on offer from cups and plates to close proximity to shops. The lovely couple who own this motel cannot do enough for their guests. We will be returning visitors to this motel.

Oldish building and being charged $120/night! It’s close Promixity to the sea, the town centre, botanical garden, nature Walking Trail makes it a good spot to be. My room is quite roomy and can sleep four - double bed and two singles! It’s quiet and owners helpful. Would I go there again? Yes
