Enjoy the simple charm of staying all year round, in a comfortable guest house surrounded by the Tarra-Bulga National Park. It's like a B&B, but refreshingly different. The guesthouse is located in a beautiful spot and there are lots of options for short and long forest walks. Nina and Torben are very attentive hosts and made me feel like at home.
Nina cooks great food (also vegetarian) but there also is a small kitchen with cattle and microwave. By public transport, you can reach Traralgon by train or coach and then take a taxi up to the guesthouse, or if you are lucky (like I was) Nina can give you a ride. The whole guest house was significantly cooler than the hot weather outside and allowed us to sleep in the afternoon when we really needed it.

The Tarra-Bulga Guest House Caf & Restaurant is situated in Balook - a unique location adjacent to the cool, temperate rainforests of the Tarra-Bulga National Park and surrounds. Built in 1934, our historic building was and still is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal and a restful night's sleep.
The Tarra-Bulga Guest House is located in Balook, right next-door to the awe-inspiring Tarra-Bulga National Park and in the middle of the Grand Strzelecki Track. Because we're so close to some of the best hiking and walking trails in central Gippsland, we have to tell you about them! In this lovely park there are 6 different short walks ranging from 640m (15mins) to 4.4km (1.5 hours).
Adjoining the Tarra-Bulga Guest House is the quaint and quirky Caf & Restaurant. Specialising in hot cooked caf-style meals as well as simple, seasonal cold dishes, many with a Scandinavian twist. The Caf offers daily Breakfast, Lunch, Morning and Afternoon Teas and Dinner by reservation (dinner is always available for guests staying at the Guest House).

What a magical place.
Set in amongst some of the most beautiful trees, ferns & scenery in the Tarra Valley region of Vic.
The food was amazing, the coffee was hot & the brownie slice ended our lunch to perfection.
The young man that owns the place was such a wealth of knowledge too.
All home-made, all fresh & all very delicious.
Do yourself a favour & drop in if you’re in the area.
