There are 3 main reasons, to look good, to allow your teeth to function correctly and to allow proper facial growth. The timing to start treatment will vary per patient. Your child will usually fall into one of 4 groups, very early, early, adolescent or late adolescent / adult. Once we have decided when to treat, Orthodontic treatment broadly can be achieved from 2 main types of appliances.

In one of my very early cases after I removed this young womans braces, she burst into tears. I had never had a patient really cry like that before. I thought I had done something to upset her, I hadn't, she was just so happy with her new smile that she was openly sobbing. I knew then that what we do in orthodontics everyday is more than straighten teeth, we change peoples life.
Dr Clark obtained his Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Qld, graduating with honours, winning the Vardiman Study prize during his studies. We often get questions from patients who want a second opinion but may feel that another consultation fee is money wasted. If you need a second opinion then upload all your orthodontic information and we will endeavour to provide you a second opinion for FREE. We will need copies of any xrays, photographs, and copies of all documentation you have received pertaining to your treatment.
It is rare to initiate orthodontic treatment in the very early group unless there is a notable discrepancy. If treatment is an option, other aspects also need to be considered: Will the child cope with treatment? Will they be responsible enough to look after the orthodontic appliance (most cases need a removable plate that can be lost if not worn)?
To look good. After our eyes, our teeth and smile are the most noticed facial feature and, like it or not we are judged upon our appearance. Teeth that meet and bite in balance ensure a balanced and harmonious facial appearance. A smile that is balanced to the face, centred, fits the face and shows the appropriate amount of tooth structure is what makes the perfect smile.
