You may have heard Muay Thai referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs", and that's because it utilises eight points of contact - fists, kicks, elbows and knee strikes - as opposed to boxing, which uses two (the fists), and other combat sports, such as kickboxing, which use four.

Muay Thai originated on the 16th Century, and the stories about how and where it came about are the stuff of myth and legends, most notably the story of the renowned fighter Nai Khanom Tom, a Thai fighter who fought to earn his release as a Burmese prisoner of war.Early Muay Thai boxers fought bare-fisted, and there was no consideration of weight classes or skill levels - the only prerequisite was that they were willing to fight.
To understand Brazilian Jiu Jitsu we have to look back at traditional Jiu Jitsu, a Japanese art that originated on the Samurai battlefields. Because their armour restricted their ability to strike, Samurai soldiers developed throwing, joint-lock, and strangling techniques to defend themselves in the event that they were disarmed and thrown off their horses during battle.
Unlike other martial arts, which finely tune a set of skills unique to that particular speciality, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) draws from a number of martial arts, which makes it ideal for physical and mental strength and conditioning. MMA's history can be traced back to the Ancient Greek Olympics, to a competitive art called pankration, meaning "all powers".
Boxing is a sport in which two competitors try to hit each other, wearing gloves, while avoiding hits from their opponent. It's a sport that has a long history, which is a testament to the refined combat sport that it is. Boxing has been around for thousands of years, and was popular in both ancient Greek and Roman societies.
Muay Thai is a combat sport that uses fists, kicks, knees, and elbows. In each class your child will learn how to utilise these 'eight limbs' effectively against an opponent, however, they will also learn respect, patience, perseverance, and humility. Many parents start their children in Muay Thai classes for different reasons, including self-defence, as a way to keep them fit and active, or just for fun.

Best MMA gym out! Incredible coaches and students! As a girl I was so nervous to join a male dominated sport... but I could not be more over the moon! They have the best girls class and the people who train there are all so nice and chill! It is such a family gym and everyone is so supportive! If your thinking of joining save the contemplating and just do it! you WILL NOT regret it! Also they are very well priced! 5++++ Stars!

Having never been involved in sport before now, I have to say that my commitment to Muay Thai comes down to the fact that this gym has such an inclusive environment. You'll always get the help you need from Richard, no matter what level you are. No matter what age, ability, or needs, you'll find that you're welcome and supported.

The best martial arts gym in the Greater Shoalhaven area. Felt like part of the family from the very beginning. Have been to gyms around here where you feel like an intruder, and they only want you to sign up and pay them. Not Here. The first week was free... Might have been 2 weeks, I signed up that day, so it doesn't matter.
Very nurturing and helpful of n00bs like myself.
Recommend.
