While it is a bit gimmicky and a bit of a tourist trap, it is, indeed, different and unique, so if you're looking for something off the beaten path, this may be up your alley.
You pay $15 entry fee just to see the inside of the building, resembling a twisted rubik's cube (they currently have a Salvador Dali sculpture exhibit which you can pay an additional $10 to see), and there is a bottom floor of... strange, modern, occasionally-creepy art. Then you go up to the top floor for tastings, which allows you to try the whole menu.

The positives: For those who appreciate art, wine and exploring the unexpected this is the perfect venue for you.
The Salvador Dali works were of course exceptional.
The Alternative Realities Museum was intriguing.
The Toilets were arty and surprising.
The negatives: Busy and popular on weekends so go on a week day if you can.
Price was a little on the expensive side $25 each for entry to cube, exhibits and tasting. Okay for a one time experience but adding up to $50 a couple, we most likely wouldn't repeat the experience.

We recently experienced the Vegan Degustation menu and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Photographs don't do it justice, the flavours and textures were amazing. As wine pairing was up around six standard drinks, staff were happy to split this between two of us and we found it more than ample. A big thank you to the friendly and knowledgeable staff. The whole experience lasted nearly two and a half hours in the beautiful & cozy Verandah restaurant overlooking the vineyards on a cold and rainy day.

What a fabulous draw card to the local area! So quirky and amazing artwork!
The toilets themselves are worth checking out.. they really are something else.
The wine tasting however was impersonal and the staff are so under the pump they appear to be going through the motions as it was so busy. We had 3 different staff for one tasting.
Definitely worth the $10 cover charge to experience "The Cube".

This is possibly the best winery restaurant in McLaren Vale. And I think they know it - they have a new multi-storey function and events centre under construction.
The food at the restaurant was spectacular - there were four of us and everyone had an incredible meal. Prices are consistent with what you would expect for this kind of quality ($25-$35 range for mains), but the portion size was more than adequate. We were all stuffed by the end. The view from the restaurant is breathtaking. Most tables are next to the window and there is a (heated) outdoor section as well.

I have had the pleasure of going to this restaurant and cellar door a few times .
The restaurant has been one of the top locations to eat in Adelaide for a number of years.
The food is sublime.. I can recommend the lobster ravioli as entree, the passion fruit soufflé for desert was amazing.
The views from the restaurant are beautiful.
It's a nice compact restaurant, would make a beautiful treat for a birthday of anniversary.

I've been to most of the wineries in Maccy Vee's but thus far had not made it too d'Arenbergs. Well, that was my mistake. Nestled close to come other lovely places (Tapestry is also a must) the scenery is beautiful and the staff took their time with us, discussed with us about various wines and gave us plenty of tastings from the single vineyard Shiraz collections. Personally I think they might go a bit overboard on those, but who am I to judge, let's see how they perform in the bottle over 20 years! If you go on a nice day or during the holidays be prepared to wait a little bit if you want to taste their wines because it's probably going to be buzzing with people. However, once you get to the front of the bar, service is extremely quick and friendly. They let you taste everything you want apart from one wine that sells for around 600 bucks as far as I remember. I recommend trying the Love Grass 2009 Shiraz and the 2008 Shiraz Viognier, both fantastic reds.

It's hard not to love visiting this cellar door. They are one of the most significant Mclaren Vale producers and have one of the biggest selections of high quality (delicious) wine for tasting in the area.
d'Arenberg is what you would call a medium size producer and they're big enough to enjoy a little bit of flexibility in their wine production. This means that as well as producing the table standard favourites, the stump jumps, Footbolt Shiraz, Olive Grove Chardonnay, Feral Fox Pinot Noir (the list goes on), they also have the luxury of creating some phenomenal food wines with
