Where surveys of flora and fauna are required, whether they be for planning permit applications for proposed development sites or to identify and manage populations of threatened species, AERS can provide comprehensive assessments tailored to suit the client's requirements.

Ecologists at AERS are skilled and experienced in identifying flora and fauna species and have knowledge of many species' habitat requirements, particularly throughout south-western Victoria.Specialist skills have also been developed in surveying bat populations using Anabat detectors to record their echolocation calls.
Established in 2002, Australian Ecological Research Services (AERS) provides Australia wide ecological consultancy services specialising in flora and fauna research and management from their Victoria office. Director and Principal Consultant, Dr. Matthew Wood has acquired substantial knowledge and experience in flora and fauna research and survey techniques and has particular expertise in macropod ecology having completed a Ph.
Surveys of flora and fauna, particularly to assess the presence of rare and threatened species, are frequently required for proposed developments as part of the planning permit approvals process. Knowing what ecological values exist in an area is vital to understanding the conservation significance of the site which may restrict or prevent proposed developments from proceeding under state and/or federal legislation.
Monitoring is an important aspect of most ecological research projects whether they aim to acquire further knowledge of a species ecology, assess the effectiveness of management actions in achieving objectives, or to assess the impact of developments on flora and/or fauna populations.

Our experience and expertise in ecological research ensure the outcomes of ecological monitoring projects provide valuable information to facilitate improvements to environmental management and conservation.AERS has undertaken a number of long-term ecological monitoring projects.
Most large developments, particularly those that pose a potential impact on the environment, require Environmental Management Plans to ensure their activities minimise impacts to the environment through the identification of environmental risks and development of specific mitigation measures. Development companies must also comply with environmental protection laws and legislation.
