If you're looking for clinical psychology services for adults or children in Adelaide and surrounding areas, look no further. Making the decision to seek help or engage in therapy is not always easy. It can feel daunting to talk about the issues that are causing you distress. It is important to find someone who listens to you and whom you feel you can trust.

Training, skill, and experience are important, but so is the willingness to engage with you as a person. Therapy is for anyone. We all have patterns of thinking, reacting, and behaving that are not in our best interest or which served a purpose in the past but are no longer needed. Equally, we have inner resources and strengths of which we are sometimes not aware.
Services
I can't guarantee to fix any problem, but I will discuss with you honestly whether I am likely to be able to assist you. Before and since entering private practice over twenty years ago, I have worked in a variety of counselling and health settings.

My experiences included working as a family counsellor in a community-based agency, as a rehabilitation counsellor, in adult mental health teams, in child and adolescent mental health, in educational settings, with employee assistance programs, and writing health focused print and web based materials. In private practice I have been able to continue the diversity of this work and continue to extend my skills in a range of ways.
Dr Kate Alessia can offer a range of assessments, some of which can be conducted as stand-alone assessments, while others occur during the course of therapy. Medicare rebates are not available for assessments that are not conducted as part of therapy.

These can contribute to formal diagnoses of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), oppositional defiant disorder, and other behavioural conditions and can help clarify what is causing children's behavioural problems eg anxiety, depression, or a physical problem.Kate can provide the psychological component of ASD assessments and liaise with speech pathologists, occupational therapists and paediatricians to clarify diagnosis.
We all feel anxious or uptight at times. For some people that feeling is constant. Chronic anxiety happens when our body responds as if constantly in danger. Anxiety can lead to sweating, nausea, difficulty breathing, pounding heart, and many other physical and emotional symptoms. It is common for children to experience anxiety, for their brain to perceive danger in the environment where no significant danger exists.
