Speech pathologists are specialists in diagnosing and treating communication disorders. This could be speaking or listening difficulties, understanding language, social skills, stuttering, reading or writing. Speech pathologists (although we're also called speech therapists, an older term for what we do, or even 'speechies') are an important part of allied health and early intervention, particularly for children with diagnosed disorders.

Services
While every child's development is different, as your baby grows into a toddler they should be starting to express themselves. Working with a speech pathologist, particularly in the early years, can help to prevent your child struggling by the time they reach primary school age. Language skills vary from child to child, but we can assess children from as young as 18 months.
The Kathy Wooler Speech Pathology team come from different backgrounds, but all share a passion for language, speaking well, and creating a bright future. Kathy Wooler started her career by establishing the speech therapy department of Community Health in Rockhampton (now Child and Family Health) in 1977.
There are more reasons than you might immediately think of to work with a speech pathologist. Speech pathologists help with a range of speech, literacy and language issues, both in early childhood and in adults. You don't need a referral to see us, and there may even be rebates available for our services.
Kathy Wooler Speech Pathology is NDIS registered, so you are able to use existing NDIS funding through us for speech pathology services, if these services are on your NDIS plan. If your child has received a diagnosis of Autism, your paediatrician may put you on a plan to have up to 20 speech therapy sessions claimed through Medicare.
