Dermoscopy is a specialized technique for examining suspicious skin lesions with a hand held skin surface microscope (dermatoscope ). The subtle features seen through the dermatoscope have been carefully researched and better understood over the last two decades.
We now know that many skin cancers can be identified earlier and more accurately with a dermatoscope than without such an instrument, providing the doctor is well trained and experienced in dermoscopy.Importantly, research has shown that doctors skilled at using a dermatoscope will not need to remove as many benign lesions in order to be sure they are not melanomas or other types of skin cancers.

Biopsies maybe required to confirm a histologic diagnosis prior to complete excision or topical treatments like PDT. This is a simple sampling without complete removal and sutures are generally not required. When the query is melanoma, any suspicious lesions should preferably be removed completely for testing.
We also have high frequency ultrasound available that is designed specifically to examine up to 10mm deep into the skin. The depth and extent of any tumours can be visualised prior to surgery and the results of surgery and topical therapies can be monitored over time. This is an additional service which is rebated by Medicare.
As part of the program to develop healthy and productive staff, many companies have considered the value to them of conducting on site skin cancer screening by Level 1 Melanoma. Early intervention reduces health costs and absenteeism. Additionally, we provide a sun safe education program to inform all participants of ways to minimize harm and maximize benefits from a healthy level of sun exposure.

When it was at 2/235 rockingham road. I booked in as I try to care about things like this. There was the Asian gentleman who was going to check me for moles. He was far too busy worried about his car making and accepting calls during my consult. Then he had a super quick check look at told me I didn’t need to come as they are all freckles and I don’t have a mole. Very bad experience. Never went back!!
