Selby's is cool. You however can find similar or the same generic items in Argos at times. But it's a really comfortable place to shop so that's why I go here.
I did have an issue a few months back in the lower ground floor, with the staff member following me around. He asked me a few times if I wanted any help and I did not. There was no reason to keep bothering me and following me. He did this on purpose to intimidate me.

I have always previously loved shopping in selbys but the last few visits were disappointing. Today I purchased some boots and the lady with the dyed blond hair was so miserable and unhelpful. She obviously hates her job and her sour face really is off putting. She did not offer to help and just kept staring. Honestly people like this really let down the store. Anyway I then paid for the boots and was served by a younger man who appeared to be new and was being trained by her . He was very helpful and displayed really good customer service skills.
The other thing that really annoyed me today was

I visited the store today - the curtains section and was served by Mrs Sabdra Parmar, who impressed me with her excellent customer service skills and willingness to help.
Unfortunately cannot say the same about her colleague, who was sitting and having negative attitude. She was so unhelpful and dismissive, so I was wandering why she is there. It appears her unhappy personal life affects her approach to the rest. It’s sad that employees like her are affecting the sales and putting customers off. But mostly I felt sorry for the nice Mrs Parmar, who is “stuck” with such negativity all day

I used to visit Jane’s Selby back in 1968, with my mum, and have always loved going there. I went there this morning to buy some (erm...) ladies undergarments. The assistant, Nadia Anafcheh, went out of her way to assist me. Very professional, helpful and kind. Very rare, good old fashioned shopping experience.

I left school aged 15 that was in 1960, l had a choice of two jobs trainee florist or window dresser, I chose the latter at James Selby Ltd , I dressed the millinery, jewellery, and hosiery windows also those departments. Everyone was called Miss or Mrs and their surname . Uniform was navy blue and dress code was strict, I enjoyed my time dressing the windows and making our own artwork and signage, also the little tat tap on the shop window as the local “ bobbies” tried to get a date while they were passing...

Shopping liked it used to be and all the better for it in my opinion. Purchased a couple of new Dunlopillo pillows and assistant couldn't have been more helpful with his advice and checking what was in stock. An added bonus was that the pillows I purchased were substantially cheaper than on Amazon. Top marks all round and remember to SHOP LOCAL and help stores like Selbys.

Love Selby's and miss it since I have been abroad, but every time I am back in Islington visiting family I always pay Selbys a visit. I am not one for traipsing around shops so Selbys is perfect for my needs. Lots of brands, departments, always plenty of staff available. Quality products and a cafe for coffee. I hope they survive what must have been a difficult year for them, as with all business. I just checked their website to see if they had moved any products online, so that I could send presents, and it prompted me to leave a well deserved review.
