Mittagong Pre-School Kindergarten
Our aim is to provide each child with a developmentally-appropriate play-based program based on individual and group interests. We have a holistic approach to children's education, giving equal importance to all areas of development, from thinking to creative, physical, self-concept, social and language skills.

The program is offered in a family-based and community context, reflecting cultural diversity and focusing on encouraging social grouping and pro-social skills. The Preschool is run by a group of voluntary parents from the parent group, with each parent a member of the association. As such, we encourage and welcome the involvement of all families.
Services
Mittagong Preschool is a community-based Preschool that was born out of community need & interest & has maintained its strong community ties over the ensuing years. The story of Mittagong Preschool is very much anecdotal, with stories told throughout its history. So, the story begins with a donation of land from Winifred West (founder of Frensham Girl's School) more than 40 years ago.
At Mittagong Preschool we acknowledge that children's lives are characterised by belonging, being and becoming, a foundational concept reflected in the Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), a guiding framework for all early childhood educators. Belonging is knowing where, and with whom we belong.
Preschool is staffed by university-qualified teachers and TAFE-qualified educators in a higher than required (by regulation), ratio of staff to children. In 2010, we introduced an innovative staffing-role of outdoor programmer. The staff strive for best-practice, responding to contemporary perspectives, committed to meaningful interactions with the children and families, and creating relationship-based education.
Mittagong Preschool is a community-based early childhood service which aims to provide a child-focused environment for children aged between 2 and 6 years of age where the curriculum emerges from the interests, strengths and needs of the children. Mittagong Preschool works in partnership with other key organisations to improve access to our service and attract additional funding to enable sustained provision of a high quality educational program.
At the Preschool the educators record the daily program; the children's interests; interactions with the provided resources, peers and educators; modifications and reflections on future provisions. These program write-ups are recorded in a journal format and displayed for the parents to view. We will be posting these records on the website for you to read, keeping them on display for 2 weeks.
