A 1988 graduate of Queen's University, Belfast, Dr Ian Harper arrived in Australia in 2001 and made his home in Ballarat. Ian's standpoint is to always remember that he is dealing with a unique human being who may be highly apprehensive and could find a necessary dental procedure difficult or uncomfortable.
Put simply, it's the best means of identifying any factor which would cause you to lose your teeth. Because it's dentistry which addresses all of the factors in your mouth which would lead to loss of your teeth and loss of your health. Through careful questioning we discover your dental history and through careful examination we search out your dental risk factors.
Dental phobia is a very serious issue and, for those who suffer it, can be devastating in its effects. We are here to help you, not lecture you, and you will not find any judgement from us when you attend, no matter how long it's been since you were last at the dentist. Conscious sedation consists of Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) delivered through a nosepiece.
When a person feels that their smile looks bad quite often the only problem is that their teeth are in the wrong position. Orthodontics is the best way of fixing teeth which are in the wrong position. It can be used on its own to make the smile ideal. Or as the starting point of a comprehensive treatment plan to rehabilitate mouth health and the smile.
When we rehabilitate a patient's smile, we weigh and balance each factor on an individual basis. The teeth also follow certain proportions, generally this is a vertical rectangle - the width of the upper central incisor should be 80% of its length. On average that means a length of 10 mm and a width of 8 mm.

I honestly can’t recommend these wonderful people and this business enough. I’m nearing the end of my Invisalign journey and I honestly can’t believe how much of a difference we have achieved. Wonderful staff, super efficient, communication is fantastic. I am normally super anxious at the dentist but I’ve been made to feel so comfortable here. They keep me informed of every single thing they are doing and check in with me during any procedures to make sure I’m still all good. A big thanks to you all, especially Ian!

Harper Dental have been amazing throughout my journey with Invisalign, even with multiple delays on my end through pregnancy they have worked with me to make sure I get the smile I’ve always dreamed of for my wedding day! I recommend them to everyone! Couldn’t be more happy, Ian Harper is so knowledgeable and extremely lovely to see, same goes with all the nurses!

I am halfway through my invisalign journey and couldn't be happier with the service and treatment I have recived so far. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. There’s no better service than Harper dental!
I have been an ongoing client for many years now, i enjoy every visit! From the reception/admin staff always being extremely welcoming and friendly, their wonderful attitudes make walking into the building delightful. The dentist’s and dental nurses whom are the most caring, kind and courteous about any procedure/dental work you are there for or need. They all work together and make the experience of going to a dentist a simply enjoyable one! I never am able to recommend this team enough! Keep up the great work guys!!

I am almost finished with my Invisalign treatment at Harper Dental & Orthodontics and I am incredibly happy with my experience. All of the staff are welcoming and professional, making me feel comfortable asking questions and explaining the process in a manner that was easy to understand and encouraging. Harper Dental is in a state-of-the-art facility in Wendouree but that is only part of the brilliant dental services they offer. All staff are competent and friendly. Treatments are excellent with the latest information and dental health habits explained and encouraged. Harper Dental is thoroughly recommended!

My Invisalign journey with Harper Dental has been exceptional from start to finish. The staff are always lovely and welcoming. Ian’s knowledge and guidance throughout the process has been simply unbeatable.
I live 4 hours away, which has created obvious hurdles - but the team have gone above and beyond with rearranging appointments, working with other specialists involved and providing Telehealth where indicated for my convenience. Could not recommend Harper Dental & Orthodontics enough.

Thank you to all the staff at Harper Dental. On week 8 of Invisalign and noticing a huge difference. Thank you for always fitting my kids in for emergencies, in particular when the dog chewed through 3 of my sons retainers but he had new ones made up within 24 hours. He eventually learned his lesson! Would highly recommend you guys!

Harper Dental is directly responsible for my daughter having to spend weeks longer in pain with her teeth than necessary. We were referred to see their Orthodontist for a consult and made an appointment 2 months ago, sent through all her detailed info and x-rays etc at the time. 3 Days before her appointment they cancelled and referred us to… another Ortho in Ballarat because they 'don't do braces anymore'. We were never booked in for anything to do with braces, it was always to be a consult before she goes on to have hypomineralised teeth removed in Melbourne. Appalled by the lack of care
