The Boat Report

Hooker 1 is a Steber 41ft flybridge cruiser, her soft riding capabilities and stability makes this charter boat the ideal fishing platform. To ensure your day isn't wasted getting to the fishing grounds, the boat is equipped with a turbo charged Cat diesel engine to give a cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 20 knots.

The Captain Report

Ashley Retallack is the Captain and new Owner of Hooker 1 Fishing Charters Gold Coast and has lived most of his life on the Gold Coast. His interests include boating, fishing, surfing and sport in general. Ash has been chartering these open waters for the last 15 years and has a vast knowledge of the local waterways, conditions and seasonal fish habitat.

Have used this charter a few times - very experienced and friendly skipper and deckhand. The boat is high quality, comfortable and clean, and all bait and tackle supplied. Took home heaps of fish - thanks for the great time boys!

Hands down the best Gold coast fishing trip we have ever done. the guys know there stuff and know where to find the fish. One of the most comfortable charter boats we have fished off, with a friendly helpful crew. Will definately be heading back out soon for another go.

Yes definitely 5 stars to these guys, what a great day out we had with Mark and his crew they worked hard to get us onto the fish the crew are experience and had knowledge of where to put us onto the fish and very friendly. If your up this way and if you want a day out book a trip with them.

Best day!
Was very surprised I caught the Fish (Mahi Mahi) I wanted. The Crew helped massively with this! I'm not by any means a Fisherman. Their knowledge of the area and Fishing is ridiculous, Wizard like :)
Worth every cent, will book again without any doubt.

WORST CHARTER BY FAR
I don't recommend going on a charter with these people. Here's why ...
1. the Skipper was extremely rude and arrogant towards customers (including making fun of sick customers ).
2. Deckhand was making remarks about one of the other customers in a very inappropriate manner.
3. Not interested in finding fish for customers, only interested in earning their dollars.
4. Website advertises $90 mon - fri special ( we were originally meant to go Sunday @ $125 each but weather cancelled trip) and they charged us $100 each... ($250 - $180 does not equal = a $50 refund!!!!!!!!

Absolutely amazing group of people. Great day fishing, everyone on board went out of their way to make it a very enjoyable day. Communication leading up to the charter was great. Everything was taken care of, all equipment supplied, morning tea and lunch included. Best day out. Will definitely be back. Thanks heaps Ash, Ali and Simon.
