Drive down to Portland and come out on the boat with some mates or join another group if there's room. We'll run the boat now, until the season winds down around August/September. Forget the options at Apollo Bay, Warrnambool and Port Fairy. Less time is spend getting to the mark, and more time trolling.

We fish out of Portland which is one of Victoria's oldest towns located 5 hours drive West from Melbourne. We fish from here because it's one of the closest entry points to the sea from the continental shelf. The Bluefin are a deep water fish and tend to stick near where this shelf runs along the southern coast of Australia.
Offshore charters this distance from the mainland require a fully qualified local skipper on board (Med 3 and Master 5). We sometimes have a few spaces spare and if we do you can get an even better rate. Call us to check availability for the dates you want to fish. Joining other groups can be a great experience and meeting new friends who are just as nuts about fishing as you are is what life is all about.
The species of Bluefin Tuna we fish for is the southern Blue Fin Tuna (Thunnus Maccoyii) and it is a part of the Scombridae family. The Northern Bluefin Tuna (Thunnus Thynnus) is a close relative but only sticks to the Atlantic region. Thunnus Maccoyii shouldn't be confused with the Albacore Tuna (Thunnus Alalunga) which has a narrower head and much longer dorsal fin.

Went out with Bagout fishing charters on the 9th of may with my mate and we had a ball didn’t take long for the first rod to start singing my got his first tuna he was wrapped so back to trolling and bang again it was my turn and I landed the tuna woo hoo we had multiple hooks a few times on our trip I highly recommend Steve from bagout fishing Charters awesome bloke works very hard I’ll will definitely be heading out with him again tuna snapper ect

I Booked the boat with a few mates April 2014 and had one of the most epic fishing trips to date..
the crew were so much fun and so professional at the same time.. we have just re booked for 2015 and we will now be making this trip to Portland with Bagout charters an annual event. thanks guys!:) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
