An Environmental Audit may be requested by local Council prior to changing land use to a more sensitive exposure setting (for example, from commercial use to residential use) where the site has historically been used for potentially contaminating activities.

A soil categorisation assessment may be required where excess soil is to be transported from a site for either reuse at another site or disposal to a landfill. Prior to excavation works, an environmental consultant should be contacted to evaluate the requirement for the assessment based on the potential contamination status of the site following review of available site information, particularly historical site usage.

Asbestos is commonly found in soil at many businesses and residential sites. It may be present due to the incomplete removal of asbestos containing materials prior to demolition works. It may also be uncovered during excavation works where asbestos-contaminated waste was either buried onsite or imported onto site within fill material or top soil.
