With it's grand proportions and old fashioned character 196 Kelly Street has been home to many things over the years. Built in the 1860's the quaint cottage nestled in the main street of Scone we believe was originally a private hospital and the Kyeema Guest House and more recently the Pastoral Lands Board.
Lovingly restored by Sydney businessman and local land owner Michael Crouch and his wife Shanny The Cottage is now home to the Upper Hunter's newest restaurant. Michael and Shanny envisaged a restaurant that could become a local gathering place for everyone to visit and enjoy - a destination, and a chance to give back to the community.

Came for brunch on a Saturday morning. Seated for 6 no worries.
Order from counter and take table number. Service is lovely and fast. Anzac cookies were the best I have ever had. Sweet and soft.
Avo on toast, tomato on toast, portabellos on toast.
Only criticism is the avo is avo mousse and the menu doesn't say that. It should. As I'm not a huge fan of that.
Has great local produce for sale. Jams, spreads, gin etc. Good selection of pastries in pastry cabinet. Also has baskets of lollies for the kids/travellers. Friendly staff. Great decor with lots of deer/country themed trinkets.

Visited for lunch, food and service was amazing. Was excited to come here for some time finally made it up from Sydney to dine here.
The food reflects the chef's passion as our mains were memorable. We had the rump steak (cooked perfectly medium rare) and the marrocan lamb neck (flavours complimented each other so well). Beer on tap was great and is a local pale ale. The desserts were to die for and coffee was great.
Thank you Chef we look forward to dining again

We had a wonderful meal at The Cottage. The setting is gorgeous and the food divine. We had twice baked souffle for entree to share, which was outstanding. My sister had the duck and I had lamb. The flavour combination of the elements in the lamb dish was incredible. I didn't try the duck so can't comment but my sister was very happy with it. We had a side of brussels sprouts as well, which were great.
It is on the pricier side but we were very happy with our experience.

Was charged $45 for a little over cooked steak and chips. No sauce. Very disappointed.
What was worse was terrible attitude of management on the night. Was told this the way it came. Waiter apologise for her attitude. Yes did receive discount. But felt like damage control.
Felt like she forgot was in food service hospitality industry. Honestly feeling was like how dare you. Super snobby

A total let down!
- Waited too long
- way overpriced
We were really excited about coming back (for the 4th time) to The cottage. Unfortunately they dropped the ball this time and it was a bad one.
Everything is overpriced for the size of the portions.
It was Easter Saturday and they knew that they would have a full restaurant and yet they ran out of two dishes within the first half hour.
We waited 2 hours for our meal as well!
One of our table had a long piece of plastic in her steak.. which was horrible but also the steaks were not cooked to the standards we expected
The only redeeming
