We approached James based on previous online reviews & also based on fee for service not trailing commissions. Our financial affairs were attended to by James with a professional approach & attention to detail that gave us a clear picture of where we were & needed to be. We went to James Harper due to the fact that his firm (Oak Advisory) is independent and only works on a fee basis.
We had arranged our affairs carefully but we wanted to perform a "reality check" around the adequacy of the rate of return on the monies in our super fund. James did a first class analysis and recommended that we move to another fund.
This move has been very successful. James' advice has achieved better downside risk management for us along with superior rates of return.
We recommend both James and Oak Advisory very highly.

I was referred to James when I decided it was time I got a better handle on my finances and plan for the future.
James explained every assessment and recommendation in a way that I could understand. All the while, James never pried into or was critical of my spending habits. The focus was always how much I could afford to put away, where I could save on my mortgage, superannuation fees, insurances and better invest.

I was previously insured through a non-independent financial consultant who took tailing commissions. I was aware of this, but not aware of how much extra expense this represented.
James at Oak Advisory was recommended to me by a friend. He was able to provide me with IDENTICAL insurance from the SAME provider for less than half the price! With these savings, James' once off commission was recovered in less than 4 months!

Over many years we have had a set and forget approach to our super and personal insurances. Recently we decided to be proactive and review our finances. I checked out the industry thoroughly before choosing Oak Advisory and it is one of only a couple of places in Perth where you can get truly independent financial advice. James had prepared well for our initial meeting and showed that he understood the spirit and intent of our financial goals.
He was enthusiastic about helping us set up for the future, and his agreement with the financial principles I had set in place before our meeting was further evidence to me of his independence and that his priority was our best interests.
