With a family winegrowing lineage dating back to 1838, the vineyard, which was established in 1976, is now producing award-winning reds, whites and fortifieds. At Robert Stein there are beautiful panoramic views of the Mudgee district, a vintage motorcycle display and a cellar door offering wine tastings and sales. It is also home to the Pipeclay Pumphouse Restaurant. We look forward to seeing you at the cellar door to enjoy the fruits of our labours.
Services
There are a number of different membership options available which cover our range of wines on offer. Chose a membership from the selection below that best suits the style of wines you enjoy. The wines for each of the Memberships categories are personally selected by Jacob Stein and include detailed tasting notes, vintage review and food matching suggestions for each wine.
Here at Robert Stein we produce a number of different styles of red and white wines. Ranging from dry through to semisweet whites, and light soft tannin through to rich, complex red wines with a fine dry finish. The wines are made from fruit grown on the property and selected Mudgee vineyards.
Some of the styles and blends produced have been passed down from Robert Stein himself, while others have been developed by Jacob to best reflect the quality of fruit grown in a given season, the varietal and Mudgee's regional characteristics. The first blocks in the vineyard were planted by Robert in 1976 and these have been extended over the years to now encompass about 12ha (30 acres).

There are a number of different Range's on offer, each with their own unique styling and winemaking. A traditional sparkling style using Chardonnay/Pinot Noir is complemented with an Australian classic, Sparkling Shiraz. Both are made using the traditional Charmat method. The Farm Series range is our entry level range offering great value for money.
Jacob Stein, chief winemaker at Robert Stein Winery, is the third generation of the Stein family to be winemaker since the Vineyard was established in 1976 by his grandfather Robert 'Bob' Stein. Having completed his Viticulture and Winemaking Degree in 2005, Jacob then proceeded to spend the next 4.5 years travelling and working in different wine regions around the world furthering his winemaking knowledge.
Founder Robert Stein was an avid motorcyclist and while living in Sydney would ride to work along a then dirt Parramatta Rd on his 1928 Douglas. Robert started his collection after being presented with a 1928 Douglas, the closest model to the one he used to ride to work, by the family for his 40th birthday.

Since we went in Christmas holidays. Most wineries were closed. On a friend’s recommendation we had gone here for a wine tasting. The restaurant was shut but we did the wine tasting. Staff is friendly, attentive and had good knowledge about the wines. We bought few good wines after the tasting. They have won awards for few of their wines like Reisling. If you are in Mudgee. This winery is a must try. They also have a vintage motorbike museum .

We discovered Robert Stein wine at a local restaurant and fell in love with their 2018 Shiraz. The wine tasting tour is inside an old cella, full of barrels, the history of winemaking, and the people behind it.
The wine tasting experience felt impersonal and finished in a dash.
Out of all the wineries we’ve been to, Robert Stein is the most expensive. Free wine tasting is redeemable if you purchase over $100 per person.
✔️ Covid safe check-in and out
✔️ Sanitiser provided

Robert Stein Winery is a must visit in Mudgee. A small understated cellar door set in an old vineyard with excellent, professional and friendly staff! There is also a range of locally produced cold meats that are excellent!
But this place is all about the wine: the Shiraz and the Riesling are my two favourites. The tasting experience was fantastic
Make sure you have time to wonder and enjoy the location, vineyard and motorcycle museum!

This has to be my favourite cellar door in Mudgee. The pours were quite generous and you never felt rushed. Make sure you book ahead for either the restaurant or cellar door as this place is popular. They don't normally let you taste the sparkling Shiraz but that was the highlight of their wines. The Rieslings are outstanding and so was the Shiraz voigner. I highly recommend a visit
