At Strine Environments, we are unrivalled in our ability to provide leading edge passive solar design that eliminates the need for cooling and virtually eliminates the need for heating in a building. Orientation - each site has its own particular requirements and seasonal variations. Our buildings have the best orientation to achieve the optimum performance in summer and winter.

Thermal Mass - our Thermal Panels and concrete floors provide exceptional thermal mass helping maintain year round constant internal temperatures in the extremes of hot and cold climates. Insulation - high-level insulation in our thermal wall panels and ceilings, as well as surrounding the edge of the floor slab ensures thermal isolation from external extremes of temperature.

We're renowned for building sustainable and affordable green architect designed homes to reduce energy costs within the wide-ranging Canberra climate. Led by awarded architect Ric Butt, Strine has made success designing and building many passive solar homes through promoting the architecture of green Canberra living.
Even as a child Ric Butt had an inquiring mind, a driving curiosity to understand how things worked. Coupled with his passion for Australia's environment, it is no surprise he established Australia's first firm dedicated to environmental design, and that he took the innovative step of improving environmental architecture to suit Australia's extreme climates, and in particular, that of the Canberra region.
From the initial contact through design, production and construction, to landscaping and interiors, we offer a holistic design for the site, and do everything in-house. What does this mean for you? It means the people you meet and brief at the start of the project, are the ones who will manage the entire process for you.
A 3 bedroom Millennium adjusted to suit the restrictive parameters of the small suburban site necessary to achieve maximum northern orientation for greatest thermal performance. The retired couple wished to substantially reduce their heating and lighting bills and have ample sunny open plan living space for visiting children and grandchildren.
Stefanie Pidcock and her husband were looking for a house to buy in Canberra but were unimpressed with what they had seen. Stefanie said she had been 'particularly struck by how poorly traditional Canberra houses are designed for the climate. They are really hot in summer and really cold in winter and leak like sieves when you try to heat or cool them.'
