The Great Walk - what a great way to see the magnificent Fraser Island - by foot! The Great Walk has amazing scenery, remote areas away from the crowds, camp under the towering rainforests, walk by crystal clear creeks, swim in the lakes after all the tour groups on the buses have left, admire the vast sandblows, enjoy the serenity and peacefulness of the stars at night.
Apart from The Great Walk there are plenty of other walking tracks on Fraser Island. What a great way to explore the island's tranquil beauty whether it is for a day walk or to get from one destination to another.
Most of the walking tracks on the island are mostly well-defined tracks with a firm and stable sandy surface with some soft sand sections which might make walking a little slower but you don't have to be an experienced hiker to enjoy just a day walk and enjoy the solitude and the nature experience of the island.See all "the little things" people in cars will never see.

You can access Fraser Island by vehicular barge from either Inskip Pt near the Rainbow Beach township or River Heads just south of Hervey Bay. Take the Manta Ray Barge from the beach at Inskip Point-approximately 15km from Rainbow Beach-across to Hook Point on Fraser Island. Manta Ray Barges operate daily from 6.00 am - 5.30 pm and take only approx 10 mins to cross to Fraser Island.
You don't need a car to enjoy your holiday on Fraser Island. Rent out a house in Eurong, for a long weekend or a week or two, relax and enjoy a short walk to the beach (no more than 300 metres from any of the houses) for a fish or marvel at the sunrise, or pop over to the Bakery for a coffee and morning tea, or restaurants for the evening.
There is now a permanent paramedic based on the island and the Ambulance Station is located in Happy Valley. There are generally no doctors on Fraser Island (unless they are here on holidays) and no hospital or chemist. If the station is unattended there is an emergency phone located at the Station.
