Polished concrete is an ideal choice for the use in alfresco and beer gardens at taverns and eating establishments and also suitable for parks, around public civic buildings and gardens. At the residential level it will suit pathways, patios, driveways and around pools areas and any concrete area that requires a more aesthetic look.
With the need for greater choice polished concrete has become a viable and aesthetic alternative to tile as pool coping. With a little planning at construction time your coping can be integrated into your paths and entertainment areas giving you a seamless finish right to the pools edge with no trip hazards and with a consistent look.
Terrazzite is an architecturally designed stone finish product that is resin based that can be laid 12mm thick on most flooring surfaces and even made into sheets for the application of stairs or showers as seen in the photos in the gallery. For professional floors, company logos made from laser cut aluminium sheet can then be filled with resin and the total floor with the logo is polished.
Honing provides the most-durable and most-versatile polished finish. It involves grinding the concrete surface (with progressively finer abrasives) until the desired glossiness/lustre are achieved. Grinding (depending on the depth) may expose the aggregates used in the concrete. While normal concrete mixes can be used, special aggregates are usually chosen to give a polished stone appearance.
