Adam's history in cafes and coffee roasting began in 1998 working for Maz and Kem at the pioneering cafe/restaurant, Milano's at The junction; working as both a waiter and barista. A move south to Melbourne in 2000 saw Adam take up a position as the head barista at leading St Kilda venue, The Coffee Machine, with owners and brothers Darren and Andrew - a relationship which continues to this day.
Our 3 flagship espresso blends, U47, M49 and LA2A all take their names from vintage microphones and musical equipment! At Darks, as well as being coffee roasters we're also longtime musicians and in a previous life, we even ran a recording studio! When coming up with our espresso blends we realised the way we described them sounded a lot like the way we described the sound of our favourite music gear.
We offer a range of brew specific coffees from the carefully blended, rich and full-bodied coffees for espresso machine through to micro lot single origins and lighter roasts suitable for alternative brew methods. We sample, cup and critique each and every coffee we roast to ensure consistency and we strive every day to achieve our goal.

Now this, THIS is going to be your best coffee in Newcastle. You’re never going to struggle to find a park because yknow, it’s outside a whole stadium. Even on game days, it’s the Knights so..there’ll be parks.
The coffee is the tastiest in Newcastle, with a variety of different roasts available (also for home purchase). Can’t get much better price wise either my fellow millennials.
Their customer service is unrivalled, an extremely comfortable experience anytime dealing with the staff.
Won’t have to wait long, easy to park, grab, go. Can also order ahead for extra ease.
