What is a split-system air conditioner? The most common residential split-system air conditioner is an air conditioning unit made up of two units - an outside unit, the compressor, and an inside air outlet unit, usually referred to as the "wall hung head unit". The two units are connected by pipes that carry refrigerant.
Ducted systems are also split system units. These are made up of one outdoor compressor unit and one indoor fan coil unit that branches off to outlets in required rooms. The indoor unit is most commonly located in the roof or under the floor. Duct work is then installed and ran to registers in each of your rooms.
How does an evaporative air conditioner work? A pump circulates water from the reservoir on to a cooling pad, which in turn becomes very wet. A fan draws air from outside the unit and forces it through the moistened pad. As the air passes through the pad it is cooled by evaporation.

The key to effective evaporative cooling is ensuring that each of the cooling pads are completely saturated at all times during operation and that the systems fan & motor are sized and designed to deliver the appropriate airflow for the home.
