Flying into the remote town, you'll see thousands of pyramid-like mounds of white rock spotted over the orange sand, interspersed with deep holes tunnelling far into the ground. This bizarre landscape has been formed by men, women and families from 45 different nationalities over 100 years, all drilling with the hope of finding opal.

Loved the WIFI, the fastest and with the best coverage I've ever used. Looks like the best and safest hotel in town but underground rooms are still at the ground level, more of dugout rooms than underground.
Not sure why there's no air conditioning in the room, was sweating pretty bad during the night (we don't like fan blowing on ourselves when sleeping).
The food in the restaurant was quite nice but was on the pricey side.
The underground bar is nice and the barman was very friendly and helpful. Very special and unique experience, will stay there again.

Personal Experience which was a Treat for me by a generous friend, at the time.
One, that so captured my imagination, I have not forgotten the Journey to, and from Cooper Pedy and the Desert Cave, especially.
In my opinion it is The Best Hotel Experience. Because not only do you stay in a Dug-Out, the Window less, Silence and absence of external Light and noise you could ever experience, on Earth. But also because of the additional Underground Places, which from an Engineered point of view borders on the Miraculous!
Overwhelmingly it is the most immersive experience I have ever had, where “

Awesome to stay a couple of nights underground. 40 degrees outside but reasonably comfortable in the cave rooms. Still needed the fan as it was quite stuffy but overall ok.
Great food at the crystal Cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Staff were friendly and the pool was nice and cold, pity it didn't have a cover over it to protect from the hot outback sun. Great experience overall.

5th time I've stayed and slowly getting worse
Had the lamb fillet in the restaurant and asked for it medium rare.
A piece of fore quater cut into 4 came out well done. Other places in town are actually better

High quality accommodation in the middle of a desert. Great food at the restaurant too. A little on the pricey side, but it's worth it for some overnight comforts. We stayed in one of the underground rooms, which was very dark and quiet - just what we needed

Very good. A bit on the pricey side, but a great cave dwelling experience. The couple who run the place are lovely. Very helpful with information about the hotel and local knowledge about where to visit etc. Only minus us you are so far underground in your room there is no mobile signal, but that's va small price to pay

Very impressed with the experience we had of the Desert Cave Hotel over the weekend in catering for our conference at Coober Pedy. It was very easy to do business with the Desert Cave in the lead up to the event... accommodation, conference arrangements and the menus (and food) for our welcome reception and dinner were all excellent. Harsha and his team provided exceptional customer service over the entirety of the weekend.

Booked underground room was a little dated but Definitely cool. For the price of the room would have expected little more but can see the appeal when you explore everything is onsite or accross the road. Room was clean and quiet, receptionist lady super friendly thanks
