Services
Originally from the Cow Bay next to the Daintree Rainforest, Our guide Cody has been passionate about fishing since he first picked up a rod aged 5. Inspired by his surroundings, Cody spent most weekends and summer holidays fishing the local creeks and rivers. As an adult he fished along side professionals working at sea for days on end.
The area of Cooktown boasts a varied fishing scene, all accessible from one base including sport, reef, game, estuary and saltwater.

Gone Fishing offers all types of fishing in many environments - reef, river, estuaries, coastlands, headlands, sweetwater and islands using lure and live bait fishing methods for all the great Northern fish - Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Fingermark, Mackerel, Trevally, Bream, Queenfish, Grunter, Coral Trout, Red Emperor, Nannygai and Tuna.Tailor-made extended charters are our speciality.
Lure fishing is one of the most exciting methods here in the tropics and allows you to cover a variety of different angling situations. This style of fishing is generally aimed at the intermediate or advanced angler but if you're a newcomer to the sport we are happy to teach you and have you competent in no time.
The beauty of this method is that the live-bait does most of the work for you. However, there is a big difference in catch rate between the angler who presents his/her bait effectively and the one who just casts over the side. But as they say, better to have a line in than not at all. At Gone Fishing we'll teach you how to match hook size to bait, sinker size to current and depth and take the time to explain why.
Cooktown is situated on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula, Australia, 320kms or 4 hours drive north of Cairns. The area offers anglers a huge variety of fish and fishing environments from jungle perch in the rainforest sweetwaters to the ribbon reefs where some of the best marlin fishing in the world can be had.

We had the best day of fishing I’ve ever had in Australia, catching a stack of coral trout and many other species. Our guide Pez aka Captain Red Beard was great company and looked after us well. He was clearly an accomplished fisherman and was happy to share his knowledge with us. It was an exciting and fun day of fishing.

Charged me $350 for half day. Caught 4 fish all under size. Skipper fished to much which I found bazaar as it seemed to feel like he was competing with me instead of looking after me, his client. Do your homework as there are other tour boats that offer great service I've been told.
