MOOMBAKI is a small, family run winery committed to making distinctive hand-crafted wines. The vineyard was established in 1997 by David Britten and Melissa Boughey on their property which borders the pristine Kent River (between Denmark & Walpole). A gentle north-facing slope, gravelly soils, and temperate climate all work their magic on low-yielding vines.
The MOOMBAKI vineyard was established in 1997 on the 105 acre farm we bought and moved to from Perth in 1994. After much researching and making sense of the seasons and variable soil types, we confirmed that we had the perfect spot to establish a vineyard. A gently sloping north facing slope, with a topography of free draining pea gravel soil, and protected from the cold south-westerly by 600 acres of river reserve which the vineyard backs onto.
You've maybe noticed that we're not your typical winery interested in the bottom line and percentages of profits (otherwise we'd probably have chucked it in by now!). What we are about, is doing things in a sustainable way - as we have been for the last 14 years, long before carbon credits came into the popular vernacular.
Single vineyard estate-grown signature blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc, and Malbec. Hand-picked from MOOMBAKI estate grown fruit, the 2018 vintage is a blend of 80% Cab Sauv, 10% Cab Franc, 10% Malbec. The dry grown, low yielding vines are cane pruned and carefully managed throughout the season, producing exceptional parcels of delicious fruit.
We are super-chuffed to introduce you to our newest member of the family - 2017 varietal Malbec. Only 1200 bottles produced. Now available for purchase - and it is looking delicious! MOOMBAKI has garnered a strong reputation for producing this highly-acclaimed varietal Malbec from the pure gravelly soils of their north-facing Denmark vineyard.

An owner that loves what they do. Proud of wine and the effort to make. 2017 Malbec is smooth and full flavour. Worth a 5 minute detour off the main road.

Boutique winery that prides itself on its produce and growing techniques (within the vain of organic methods). Very friendly service and delicious wines! Beautiful, quaint cellar door with some lovely artwork and woodwork artisan pieces. Gorgeous property too! Pick up some apples and pears while you're there!

Not welcoming. No people skills. It is not worth the drive out there and the wines are very expensive.
