Services
In the 1870s a telegraph station was built on the site of the present town of Karumba - this was during the gold mining boom in the Gulf. The overland telegraph line ran to the Gilbert River, Mt Surprise and on to the more populated centres on the East Coast. Initially the settlement was known simply as Norman Mouth being at the entrance of the Norman River into the Gulf waters.
The Karumba Point Holiday & Tourist Park is close to the beach and boat ramp and our office has basic grocery items available for sale. The Caravan Park offers powered and un-powered sites at a reasonable rate and for people without caravans there are air-conditioned onsite caravans available.

Facilities include sparkling swimming pool, clean amenities, laundry facilities, camp kitchen, fish cleaning area, dump station and there is even a craft supplies shop incorporated in the spacious office. Also available in the office is bait, seafood, ice, soft drinks, ice creams, basic grocery items and book exchange.
