Mental health, in essence, is your state of well-being. It is a person's cognitive ability to cope with normal everyday stresses while producing work or contribution to one's community.
It is a complex interplay between many factors both individual and environmental including family history, lifestyle choices towards, smoking, exercise, substance use etc., levels of personal and workplace stress, exposure to trauma, access to support and healthcare. When these demands exceed a person's coping abilities, their mental health is invariably affected.

Services
The NSW Consumer Advisory Group - Mental Health Inc. (NSWCAG) is the statewide, non-government peak body that represents people who use mental health services (mental health consumers) to all levels of the NSW Government. In this way NSWCAG acts as a bridge between mental health consumers and the government.
Participation for people who experience mental illness is both important to assist in making important decisions in things such as one's treatment choice, but also in providing feedback and input to policy makers, health services, advocacy organisations such as NSWCAG, and the government about how best to shape service delivery in the future.
The Federal Treasurer announced a $2.2 billion package over five years to deliver on its commitment to make mental health a national priority. This package is in addition to the $624 million recently invested by the Federal Government, including funding for suicide prevention, expanding services such as headspace for young people, and more mental health nurses.
NSWCAG together with GROW will be holding a travelling conference this year. We will holding the conference in 4 locations across NSW (Lismore, Wagga Wagga, Other regional area and Parramatta). Building Communities is the name of the conference and the theme is about connecting to community.
This theme will explore ways consumers have reconnected with their communities after being unwell, ways of staying connected with community, it will showcase some innovative solutions to reconnecting to community and ask the question of "How we help others to reconnect?".

We've put together an election agenda to advise NSW politicians on how to make NSW a better State for people with a lived experience of mental illness. This is about many aspects of living well and is not limited to mental health service issues.
To everyone living in NSW: we ask you to support our call for action - you can write to political parties and your local candidates and spread the word about this election agenda to your friends and family. You can also make a big difference in your community by taking proactive actions to be inclusive and supportive of people from all walks of life, including people who have a mental illness.
