Located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River in the Western Riverina Region and once passed through by noted explorer Charles Sturt, Hay was an important river crossing in the 1850's for stock being driven south to markets in Victoria.
Named after Sir John Hay, a local pastoralist and member of Parliament in 1859 and its current site once "squatters" properties, Hay soon became an important hub for local and district pastoral holders in the production of stock and wool. Its original Courthouse was built in 1860, and was the first of four Courthouses Hay would see over the years.

Rich with history and character Hay has lots of things to see and do. Over centuries poets and artists have attempted to capture the spirit of the plains, but only a visit to Hay will give you the real experience. Service and sacrifice - A large collection of medals, photographs, uniforms, letters and diaries documenting Hay's WW1 experience.

I ordered a caravan site for this park over the phone from Melbourne, and I was assured that I would be able to secure a drive thru site, upon arrival I was told that no such sites were available, the site I was given was just a dustbowl and a long distance from the amenities, and the amenities were dirty and run down, would never go back
