Stan left school at 14, one year after the establishment of Canberra, to work in his father's sulky manufacturing business. They supplied throughout Australia and exported to South Africa. His father was also a prominent politician at the time and Stan learnt the carpentry and upholstery skills in the business and this led him to open his first furniture store in 1918.
By 1926, a chain of stores was established throughout the southern region. The Great Depression hit businesses hard and the furniture trade was no exception. Although the businesses were well established, all stores were closed except for those in Canberra upon the declaration of war in 1939. 1964 saw the establishment of Furniture One.

Our second experience with Cusacks was a little disappointing. We bought several furniture pieces from Cusacks and after delivery noticed the two white side drawers for a bedroom were in a poor condition. We were aware that they were floor stock, but the condition certainly did not warrrant the price tag. We also ordered two fabric bedheads in the same colour, but were only able to get one. We were contacted by Cusacks. I asked them to source a similar bedhead in the beige. A beige was found and a photo of it was sent to me, however the photo did not show that on both side of the bedhead there

What amazing service! The staff at Cusacks in Fyshwick provide the kind of service I thought no longer existed. They have gone out of their way to assist me with a problem I had with a manufacturer even though they had no obligation to do so. We have been very impressed with this company and will definitely be returning to buy some more of their lovely furniture.
