We are a small boutique steel fabrication company specializing in the supply, fabrication and installation of structural steel for the domestic building industry. We have been located on the same site in Warrigal Road Chadstone since the business was started by Vernon Ungar in 1950. There have been many changes to the area since then.
Ungar Metals is positioned on the corner of Peverill Street between the Monash freeway and Waverley Road with a large Council car-park at the rear. Access to the business is easy being directly off Warrigal Road or off Waverley Road through Shrewsbury Street. Ungar Metals has always been owned by Mr Ungar and his family and many of his employees have worked with him for over 30 years.

Services
At our site in Warrigal Road we operate a number of Mig Welders and oxytorches. We also have a guillotine, steel cropper, specialist saws, drills and punches and a small plate roller. We deliver our steel to your building site, home or factory with our own crane-truck which has an overall reach of 20 metres.

I have been getting my steel from Ungars for over 30 years, from large beams to small angles and plates and I can recommend them 100%.
I'm not as busy as I used to be but rang Danny for a small job today and within 2 hours it was ready. Not bad!!
Its great that Ungars is still the most convenient place to get steel in the South East.

If you're into DIY metalworking or you need something for a home project, it's a great place to search for cheap off cuts, various bits and bobs you can't get at bunnings or hardware stores, and they've been very helpful to me when I've needed advice on home projects. I go there frequently for supplies and always leave with more than I intended buying because the place is full of great materials for DIY projects

I needed to buy some steel and had a couple of questions which I politely put to them. The owner, sitting at a desk eating his lunch, couldn't be bothered answering beyond uttering a grunt or two. The receptionist snapped a few words at me but seemed to be overly defensive. Perhaps she had some personal issues. I'll be giving this place a wide berth in the future. Make up your own mind.

Danny Ungar has been amazing to deal with. He has gone out of his way to assist my company for any steel designs we needed and willing to go the extra step to ensure we were happy. We will be back when we need more steel as Danny and his staff have always been wonderful to deal with and punctual when delivering.

After waiting for 5 days for a quote we were then told it would take a week to get them to site for a measure.
Fast fwd 2 weeks, no calls, no bookings - NOTHING. I asked them if they want the job and the guy actually said.."not really. We are pretty busy"
Thats their version of customer service. Run you around for weeks and then deliver a big zero. Get ready for disappointment

Go elsewhere these guys are useless and have attitude.
Arranged for quote and they didn't turn up. Rang them up to find out what happened and they told me that I could go elsewhere if I liked! Persisted and eventually got someone out there to measure up and quote - saying it would be 3 days to construct and deliver. Then rang to confirm delivery and they kept saying 'should' get it you by monday or tuesday of the following week - I had three guys booked in for install on Monday based on their estimate of Friday delivery. So pressed them for Friday completion and we had to go and pick it up ourselves
