Downes Reliable Shoe Repairs was established over 100 years ago and had traded at the same location for the entire period until development finally caught up with it in early 2014, Barry Toombs, a qualified shoe maker, purchased the business in 1985 and has carried on the good will of the past owners, keeping the quality shoe repairs and friendly specialist service that Downes Reliable Shoe Repairs was renowned for.
In the late 80's with the repair-ability of shoes declining Barry (The Doc Father) started researching quality boots and shoes that a boot maker could recommend, he found Dr Martens, which were little known in Australia, only being imported sporadically from England.

Downes Shoes Brisbanes own Dr Martens Specialist was established in 1885, and has traded in Fortitude Valley ever since. Barry Toombs, a qualified tradesman, purchased the business in the early 80's and has carried on the good will of the past owners ever since. In early 1990 the major shopping center in Fortitude Valley closed which had a major impact on local small businesses including Barry's.
All of our team members are Doc lovers and experts and we use our combined skills to work on Docs and do all things at the shop. It's all about the passion and the love! First experience here a month or so ago was 10/10, the they-thems in the store were so lovely and helpful!
Any other person would have sent me on my way with my docs but they deadass like, helped me lace them onto myself and gave them some softener to help break them in a bit ♥️ Had a nice little chat too ♥️
They have an online store with the full range and offer click n collect or postage, good range of Docs esp the more rare varieties. (Mm. My wallet weeps.)
To any other doc marten afficianados would super reccomend these guys :)

My new Orange Docs arrived today. I am a Melbourne Artist and this color speaks happiness. What goes best with Melbourne Black......ORANGE.

Best place to buy Doc's. I adore this shop. Well set out, super cool friendly staff. Kirsty outdid herself with my last visit, thank you for such friendliness and going out of her way to make my purchase. I would definitely recommend Downes Shoes. I bought rose embroidered 1461 docs from here and i LOVE them! i had been looking for these everywhere but they’re mostly sold out or quite pricey. they got delivered but website seems really cool with customised docs and rare hard-to-find pairs. the customer service was also really great, i called beforehand to consult about returns and they were super friendly and helpful, saying if i needed anything to call. i also got a really cute letter with my order :) as well as stickers and maintenance tips. Downes shoes seem like doc-marten experts and i would definitely recommend!

We went yesterday to find some shoes for my daughter. The assistant was so helpful and I was really impressed with her knowledge of the stock available. The two other assistants were also very friendly and both said hi and commented that they'd be with us soon because they were busy. Such a simple thing but makes such a difference to the impression on entry.
This store is truly a haven if you love this brand. We are going back to buy my daughter's shoes when they come in.

Just brought my 4th pair of docs from this AWESOME AWESOME store. The staff are also AWESOME AWESOME (and another?) AWESOME.
The place to go for your doc martens. A huge assortment of docs from your basic black to every colour or design you could imagine..Left with my new 1460 Honda Mona ( black with embroidered black roses ) and a fist full of stickers to spread the word.
10 out of 10 for service.
