Marcus Lima is an inspiring teacher - so fast, technical & lethal. He has an amazing manner & brings out the best in everyone who trains with him. The gym is clean & the roller doors at the entrance mean the gym always smells fresh and has heaps of light. After I tried all sports and martial arts I could (dancing, karate, judo, boxing and swimming) I finally found something that I like and that I can be good at.

The Gracie Barra school in Shellharbour welcomes everyone who is looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, and improve the overall quality of their lives. A typical Gracie Barra student starts with an introductory class, where he or she will learn the overall self-defense strategy of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and afterwards start in the Gracie Barra Fundamentals Program.
We want you to have the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experience possible so we made our school to suit your needs. Our large training facility has just about every feature you could wish for in a martial arts school. Our school offers a wide range of programs, private training and a wealth of other benefits and features.
Get your kids off the screens and into a worthwhile pass time. We know for some of you this will be no simple task. If you do, we can promise you that the 2-3 hours a week they spend at our school will benefit them in many ways. Today's children are faced with many challenges in life from bullying to unhealthy lifestyle.
The Gracie Barra Program Structure defines three main stages of development for students: the GB' Program - Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals, the GB Program - Advanced Jiu-Jitsu, and the GB Program - Expert Jiu-Jitsu. These stages indicate different maturity levels and students upgrade from one to the other in their own natural progression.
Our women's martial arts program is designed to teach women how to defend against any attacker - even those who are significantly larger in size. Our instructors will help you run drills to simulate realistic attack and escape situations you might encounter in the real world. With practice, you can leverage an attacker's weight against them, allowing you to escape and get to safety unharmed.

I tried Karate and Judo when I was a kid. As a teenager I tried MMA and wrestling. When UFC became very popular I decided to try BJJ. Only now at the age of 40 I found what I really like: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This place is what I was always looking for. The girls are so nice and friendly. The students, from white to black belt, are always willing to help. If you are considering this martial art (which you should) - either for yourself or your children, please call these guys - Gracie Barra Shellharbour is changing my life. I have nothing but praise and respect for Gracie Barra Shellharbour and how they have welcomed my son into their Jiu-Jitsu family. And that’s what GB Shellharbour are, a family. Professor Marcus is one of the most amazing humans and he treats every child with care and compassion and is such a wonderful teacher. Evelyn in the office is so welcoming and encouraging of all the kids and all the other coaches are fantastic and all work with the best interest of the kids at heart. The team @ GB Shellharbour have been excellent, very family friendly, easy going - yet firm and exact in their teachings, very professional and skilled in their art. They are producing competition winners and these champs are also teaching us and our children. Fantastic curriculum. Highly impressed and are sharing our experiences with everyone we know. Top facility & mentality. The only place to be in the Illawarra.

We have been so happy with our experience at Gracie Barra Shellharbour since our son joined the kids class at the end of 2020. I have been consistently impressed with the professionalism of the staff and even more importantly, how welcoming and inclusive they are with the kids and their families.
The classes are a great mix of skill, exercise and FUN! So much so that my daughter couldn’t sit and watch any longer and HAD to join in the classes too!!

I have been attending Gracie Barra Shellharbour for 5 months and am so happy I joined. The staff are incredible- Evelyn is warm and friendly and Marcus is a knowledgeable and patient teacher. More importantly Gracie Barra Shellharbour is like a family and I felt welcomed there from my first day. I am so happy to be learning Jiu Jitsu in such an amazing environment!

Warm and friendly atmosphere. By far the best place to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! My kids and I love it. I highly recommend Gracie Barra Shellharbour to both children and adults. We love BJJ at Gracie Barra. It's a great family oriented club. We've got all our kids + dad attending. (7yo, 10yo, 12yo, 14yo + dad!) And everyone loves it. The teachers/coaches are patient and its definitely a friendly vibe. Lots of the experienced guys always willing to teach what they know. Highly recommend whether for children or adults!
