While many successful athletes coach in the larger cities, Jean-Claude has settled with his family in Penrith and believes it's a great place to live, work and raise a family.

Locals benefit from having a well respected coach and Olympic athlete so close to home to impart his skills, knowledge and experience to help others realise their own goals and dreams. Services
Head Coach Jean-Claude Raphael is a 5th dan (Kodokan trained) black belt and internationally respected athlete. Having competed in two Olympic Games, placing 9th at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Jean-Claude is a coach who talks the talk AND walks the walk. Having studied Judo for over 30 years, Coach Jean-Claude has traveled and lived in Japan, Korea and France, accumulating a wealth of knowledge and experience.
We run a 3 week 'come and try' judo program to give you a taste of what judo is all about before deciding on joining in regular training. This program covers basic throwing actions, submission techniques and ground fighting. Special emphasis is placed on the skill of falling safely. There are no egos at Kokoro Judo Coaching.
Founded in 2011 by two-time Olympian Jean Claude Raphael and his wife Marlene, Kokoro Judo Coaching offers the opportunity to learn an Olympic sport from a world class athlete and experienced technician right here in Penrith. At Kokoro Judo Coaching we provide high quality coaching for adults and children in a clean, friendly environment - we are an ego free school!
Judo is not just for adults. Kids and teenagers benefit greatly from our strong junior curriculum focusing on holistic skills for life both on and off the mats. Worried about martial arts for your child? Judo is known as "the gentle way" and is a non-combative art form which does not include kicking, punching or striking.
If you want to increase stamina, gain muscle strength, lose weight and maintain your accomplishments, then Judo is the all-encompassing high calorie workout which will leave you wanting more. Took my little girl to her first lesson today!! She was a abit shy at the start but the staff and instructor were very kind and welcoming ...and She had a great time and hasn’t stopped talking about how much fun she had!! Definitely recommend!!!
